How to
Troubleshoot Problems Downloading Yahoo Messenger With Vista
Troubleshoot
common problems with Yahoo! Messenger.
Yahoo!
Messenger is one of the most popular instant messaging applications in use on
the web today and boasts features including instant media sharing and
compatibility with Yahoo! search and Mail services. However, in rare cases,
users of the Windows Vista operating system have reported problems installing
Yahoo! Messenger. Fortunately there are some simple things you can do to combat
installation problems with Windows Vista.
1
Update
your computer. Yahoo! Messenger is designed to work with the most current
version of the Windows platform and if you are not using the most current
version, it can cause issues. To update Windows Vista, click "All
Programs" in the "Start" menu and then select "Windows
Update." A new window will appear. Select "Change Settings" and
then choose "Automatically". Windows Vista will then begin
downloading and applying the latest updates.
2
Disable
User Account Control (UAC). This function blocks certain functions from working
which the console deems to be "detrimental," which can include the
Yahoo! Messenger download/install process. To disable UAC, open the
"Run" dialog box from the "Start" menu, type
"MSCONFIG" in the text box and then click "Run". Then
select "Disable UAC" from the new window and click "OK".
The window will close automatically.
3
Download
a different version of Yahoo! Messenger. The most problematic iteration of
Yahoo! Messenger was the ninth version, which would fail to download completely
in the Windows Vista operating system. However, subsequent versions have since
been released, and is much more compatible with Windows Vista. See the
"Resource" section for a link to download the most recent version of
Yahoo! Messenger.
